I think sitting in the office together just felt really claustrophobic and everything felt wrong the day after that.
And we just sat by a canal and we had a coffee together and we started talking.
And that was when I suddenly saw that the man I thought was really... The man who stole your job was... Stole my job.
And he was like really... He was handsome and charming, but I kind of was very mistrustful of that.
And so...
I wasn't prepared to give him the time of day but then as we talked I kind of understood that he was as he presented he was incredibly well read passionate about books a real sort of kind heart and I saw that he was carrying his own grief actually and I think what I thought was sort of aloofness was actually a sadness that he had inside him because he'd lost his mother quite young and so as we started to open up to each other we sort of
found a place to meet and that's when i sort of you know when you start to just feel that oh you're very interesting the crush the crush the crush yes but we sort of danced around each other at work for ages i was i was slightly nervous about having a an office romance it wasn't something i thought i would ever do but it was really hard to resist him and very quickly we sort of fell in love and moved in together and that was that really
Yes.
So that was one of the very first conversations we had was how much we both loved Australia.
He'd been travelling over here.
I had done the same, but I also had family here.
So it was a really natural progression for us, I think, to sort of talk about whether we would consider moving over to Australia together.
And it was kind of just a big, yes, let's do it.
I just feel immense gratitude and love, really, when I think about him.
And it's taken me a long time to get to that place where it doesn't feel really heavy and really painful.
I mean, the love was always there.
And I think that's something I've learned about grief is grief stays with you.
But that means that the love's staying too, which is sort of the hope of it all, really.
And so I just feel now when I reflect on Matt and the man he was, I feel incredibly lucky to have met him and married him and had his kids.
And just, yeah, it just I feel grateful.
