On June 13th, 2023, Jennifer had the opportunity to share her story by testifying before the U.S.
Senate.
She spoke about the experience of getting that phone call with her daughter's cries and screams, and then being told that Brie had been kidnapped, only to realize it was all a scam.
Jennifer was there to raise awareness about the increasing number of scam calls that use AI technology to clone humans' voices.
She urged Congress to take this issue seriously and act in the best interest of the American people.
She wrote in her statement, AI is revolutionizing and unraveling the very foundation of our social fabric by creating doubt and fear in what was once never questioned, the sound of a loved one's voice.
One reason she's speaking out is to urge lawmakers to adapt to the rapidly advancing technology.
When Jennifer realized that day on the phone that Brie was safe and she hadn't been kidnapped, Jennifer was still on the phone with the scammers, and she threatened them, saying she would find them and catch them so that they could not do this to anyone else.
But after she hung up and spoke to law enforcement, the reality set in.
They had not technically committed a crime.
No money had been exchanged.
No one had been kidnapped.
