Investigators wondered whether the two incidents might be connected.
Surprisingly, this is not Jennifer's only experience with a terrifying hoax.
The second incident was when her daughter Bree was headed to college.
It was an entirely different scenario than the scam phone call.
This time, Bree and both her parents were attending her freshman orientation.
All the new students and parents were there at a welcome assembly.
Jennifer and Bree took shelter in a restroom in the library with several other students and parents.
Jennifer had been through active shooter drills before, and as we've established, she's good in a crisis.
It takes a lot to rattle her.
So she took on the role of helping to quiet and calm the others in the room.
It's truly the stuff of nightmares.
For over an hour, they waited, terrified.
They read reports that people had been killed.
SWAT teams ran through the halls.
Finally, they got moved outside of the building and were told it was safe.
And that is when another report came through.
The idea that Bree's kidnapping wasn't real or that the school shooting wasn't real is only one way to look at the situation.
Because in the minds and bodies of those who experienced the fear of those events, it was real, for a moment at least.
Finding out that those responsible for these events were scammers at the other end of a phone call didn't make the fear that they perpetrated any less real.
Mental health experts say that these type of hoax events can lead to very real PTSD in people who experience them.
