Lawyers were hard to find who were admitted to the bar in D.C.

I remember helping dozens and dozens of people who called my office asking for help with lawyers.

I'm not admitted in D.C.

I couldn't help them and I don't do criminal defense work or didn't at the time.

And so I referred them to a handful of lawyers and there was only two or three that I knew who I trusted who were good lawyers who could do this work.

So those lawyers are overburdened.

They couldn't get in to see their clients.

Clients were held in incommunicado.

They were held in inhumane conditions.

I think this is the first time actually conservatives have understood some of the problems with our prison system.

Some of our prisons are really incredibly inhumane.

It's one of my causes that I care about.

But suddenly, conservatives were exposed to what it's like to have bad prison conditions and a lack of justice.

And I think, in a way, it's awakened a lot of people to some of the problems that need to be fixed in our country.

But people were just all convicted, for the most part, of these crimes or pled guilty because of the pressure.

And you hold somebody in solitary for a year, don't let them have meaningful access to counsel, have judges who are biased already, and they're going to plead guilty.

That's what a rational person would do.

And so...

And you have Ashley Babbitt, you know, who got killed by Capitol Police.

And, you know, there's people there seeking justice.
