Running a budget surplus this year of 10.5 billion, projected to be 5 billion next year.
All sounds good.
But I think if you look at the total tax revenue we're taking in as a country now, that's well over 110 billion, with about a third of it from corporate tax and a third of it from income tax.
So any small swing in that, given the percentages, could push us out of that surplus.
And there's definitely headwinds out there.
I mean, clearly the tariff discussion is out there.
There's a lot of geopolitical noise.
So there's a lot of headwinds.
I mean, one of the things we've...
hear from talking to companies a lot is the competitiveness landscape in Ireland.
You know, there's a report by the US Secretary of State recently which talked about Ireland in the terms of, you know, high labour and operating costs, you know, a shortage of high quality office space and housing and a really difficult and tedious planning process.
These aren't things we like to hear from a country that's a significant investor.
Absolutely.
I mean, I think, you know, who has come out of this quite well is businesses, I would say.
You know, you've talked about the hospitality sector, but I think, you know, business in general would be happy with the number of the initiatives that have been announced.
You know, we've talked about the R&D tax credit increasing from 30% to 35%, which is a very welcome change.
There's also mention of an R&D compass, which looks at making additional changes to that regime, which I think are very important initiatives.
that they will come through the r d credit is very important for both encouraging investment in ireland but also for domestic investment and what we really need to see around the r d tax credit for particularly for private business i think in ireland is a more simplified way of operating it because it's very difficult there's a lot of administration that comes with claiming that credit and as part of that r d compass we'd love to see for private business
you know, an announcement that will effectively make it easier for them to claim the credit.
Yeah, absolutely, Joe.
