And so nice to be here with all of you and especially with you, John, to talk about this very smart, very funny novel, which was published today.
So I'm sort of assuming that most people won't have read it, but maybe a show of hands of anyone who has managed to already read it.

What was the first seed of an idea that brought you to writing this book?
Yeah.
So thinking about the sort of untied ends that are left when somebody dies quickly.
Yeah, I remember I interviewed Charlie Brooker, the screenwriter, and he said that sometimes it's like you get an email from your subconscious, like it just arrives, and you feel as though something has just happened fully formed, but of course you've been thinking about it on various different levels for such a long time before that, and it's quite magical.
