And that's quite old school.
Does that make sense?
It does make sense.
It's interesting because how that evolved, because that's old school, is that evolved into that thing you mentioned, which is deep learning.
That's often conflated with this idea of neural nets.
Within machine learning, if you want to Google a really basic type of machine learning, you can Google something called linear regression.
It's a very simple algorithm used for very simple things.
People came along and said, let's go do something really crazy.
They developed a neural net.
This is the kind of things that self-driving cars tried to use.
And this has been around for a decade or two at this point.
And this was basically systems where they tried to
not emulate the human brain, but more like imagine the intelligence is modeled by like, you know, streets.
There's like traffic lights everywhere and you can go a whole bunch of different ways through the streets.
And what they would say is they would go, here's an input.
An input might be an image of an apple and like here's an output and it would figure out the right, you know, neural pathways to get there.
It's really not the same as how humans learn, but you can kind of understand it the same way in terms of like humans, we experience inputs and outputs and then we just connect the dots, right?
So it was this way to kind of create a computer system that could connect dots and then essentially no one knew why it would work, but it would work.
And these worked well by feeding it huge chunks of data.
So, you know, whether it was, you know, language data or whether it was images from, you know, self-driving cars, neural nets have been the basis for all the complicated machine learning that we've been doing for a long time.
