Thank you very much, thank you.

this proclamation recognizing Black History Month, and thank you for joining me.

Whereas each year, the month of February is designated as Black History Month and is observed and celebrated throughout communities across the nation, and whereas the origin of Black History Month dates back to 1915,

when Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded the organization now known as the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, and whereas the observance of Black History Month provides an opportunity to increase awareness and gain a deeper understanding of African American history while acknowledging centuries of struggle, resilience, and contribution in the pursuit of equity and freedom.

Whereas since 1976, every president of the United States has proclaimed the month of February as Black History Month.

And whereas this month-long observance encourages unity and appreciation for diversity and has strengthened and enriched our nation.

And whereas the national theme for Black History Month 2026

A Century of Black History Commemoration highlights the profound influence African Americans have had on visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary traditions, and other forms of cultural expressions.

and whereas organizations to include religious institution, the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, ARLIC, Friends of ARLIC, the NAACP Fort Lauderdale Broward Branch,

The black elected officials, the Urban League of Broward County, and the West Side Gazette are recognized for significant contributions to the economic, educational, cultural, and spiritual development of African American communities throughout Broward County.

And whereas Broward County proudly celebrates the rich history and enduring contribution of African Americans through special programs and events hosted throughout Black History Month, particularly

at its libraries, museums, and cultural institutions.

Now, therefore, be it proclaimed by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners that the Board hereby designate February 26 as Black History Month in Broward County, Florida, and encourages all residents honoring African history, heritage, and contribution.

It has been a task.

It has been our story, and we stand proudly.

I present this to you.
