It's a tax by a different name.
It's essentially the same thing.
You're imposing a fee on some sort of economic activity.
And yet while President Trump likes tariffs and some people do, it's really hard to get Congress to raise taxes, especially as we have found even on the wealthy, unfortunately.
But it is possible, it is possible to undo this and to change.
And so I think that is what we need to be talking about and organizing towards is, you know, how do we do that?
There are a lot of great ideas out there, lots of ways that we can tax wealth at the top, tax incomes at the top, and make up some of that gap in our public revenues.
Well, this I mean, when he said that, you know, I was thinking, gosh, this is really a full employment program for accountants.
Right.
Because so many changes and lawyers, you know, so many changes making it so hard for companies to comply.
But then all of that is just raising costs in ways that are inefficient.
They don't make a lot of sense.
You know, and that's bad for American consumers.
And, you know, it is really a problem.
Yeah, I mean, that is such a hard question, Katie, because I think that part of what you're seeing today is that alone, we can't do much, right?
These are forces that are bigger than any of us individually.
You know, one of the things that I did when I was in the Biden White House was that I traveled to communities all across the country to learn about how they were investing in new industries.
And one of the things that in every community I visited, they talked about the role of trade policy.
They talked about the role of what was happening in Washington and how that was helping or hurting their community.
And so you watch what's happening today and the chaos that Bharat just talked about.
