I had been effectively talking to ghosts.

Found in an abandoned apartment complex when I was barely a teenager.
The animal alertness turned into fear.
Holy shit.
That's all I could squeak out after the air in my lungs drained in one deep exhale.
And I stopped breathing.
I didn't need to turn around immediately to know I was no longer alone.
I could feel that I was not alone.
I could feel their air.
And smell their death.
Then I hurt them.
their precise footsteps shuffling through the loose paper on the floor.
And with each footstep taken closer towards me.
Fireworks went off at the end of every nerve in my body.
