Someone said to us at the start of Unplugged, they said, why are you going and buying a cabin?
Why don't you just put up a landing page and drive traffic to it and test if people actually want to lock away their phone or not?
And the problem behind that is they would have probably said they didn't want to lock away their phone, but it's not the business we want to make.
It's not the change we want to make in the world.
And I think that stubbornness
can lead you to disaster, but also can lead you to a much more unique outcome.
Fundamentally, from my side, I just had no interest in competing.
I have no interest right now, if I wasn't doing Unplugged, going and doing an AI startup with all these geniuses from Stanford and getting into an arms race with them.
The way to not compete is just to do something that you very authentically believe in
that is different.
As you said, six years ago when we were doing this, no one was really talking about this.
And so I think a lot of it is just going with how you believe the world should be and then hoping you're right, basically.
100%.
I mean, the business basically came off the back of that.
So there's something around that.
Our brain has two ways of thinking.
There's something called focus thinking and something called diffuse thinking.
Focus is, if you imagine a spotlight, so when we're on our laptops working, you're focused in on the problem.
And diffuse thinking is what happens when you're not looking at anything in particular.
It's when the mind wanders.
