I had an you know an aha moment when I went to the 2002 California Reading Conference and I sat in on a lecture by Susan Barton and she you know everything just came clear all of a sudden.
Oh, it's dyslexia.
This is what I've been searching for for forever.
And everything just made sense at that point.
And I think still what we're seeing in schools is some of the old teaching patterns.
And they haven't figured out how to do things a little bit differently, which is why we see such a big homeschooling movement and alternative school movement.
Because parents are wanting something different for their children.

So dyslexia, if we look at that word dyslexia, the literal meaning meaning is difficulty with language.
So the dis means difficulty with and the lexia is language.
So and that's the basic definition.
So this difficulty with language has nothing to do with IQ.
It's just that it's really hard to break language down.
So there are some essential pre-reading skills that people need in order to start building.
