We're trying to diagnose it too late.

So we wait until a person starts having trouble reading.

So we wait until sometimes the third and fourth grade, when really it can be assessed for in kindergarten because it has to do with language.

So there's a lot of speech patterns you'll see with dyslexia.

One is changing the sounds in words.

Um and the syllables and words, so saying something like Baschetti for spaghetti or hospital for hospital.

So there's just some issues with language and what's happening is uh somebody with dyslexia's b believes they're saying those words correctly, but they aren't.

So they need help with

at the sound level just processing sounds.

And it's interesting because because we wait until uh students in schools start failing, there winds up being a whole mass of mindset issues of um people thinking that they aren't successful or they aren't smart enough.

So f for me that's a huge area of dyslexia that we need to do some work with.

It's amazing to me and with all of the social media, it's been challenging to get teacher mindsets to change.

So I a lot of teachers do know about dyslexia.

So in Napa, dyslexia is known fairly well, and my number one referral resource is teachers.

But we still need even more filtering of dyslexia instruction and what to spot in the classroom because it's so important because it can take

a world full of pain away from the student who's having difficulty.

Typically when

A student, you know, who comes to me learns they're dyslexic, it's majorly relieving because they know, oh, okay, that makes sense.

Because then it doesn't mean anything about their intelligence.
