any of the the dozens of armed groups in in China, or for that matter, members of the democracy movement, or for that matter, members of the junta that aren't in in some way being engaged by uh stakeholders in China, which I think is still quite an an exception for China to be that deeply integrated into a very complex conflict, but a a fascinating case study.
And so you can draw a comparison between what I would consider something of an exception in Myanmar and then how China has, for example, looked at the conflict in Iran, where they seem to be very uninterested in taking on any kind of risk or obligation related to resolving the conflict, even though
You know, Xi Jinping has said, or ha it has been said that he said that China wants the Strait of Hormuz open to normal trade.
And I think that's probably true.
But at the same time, China has shown really no apparent interest in working itself to bring that about.
And so it seems like that's potentially an interesting illustration of
The old way of how China would look at conflict affecting its interests in the world?
And would you expect that going forward, the weight of China's own interests would actually cause China to seek greater involvement in messy conflicts around the world?
Or do you think that's further than Beijing will be willing to go?
go as it thinks about how to maintain some level of order in a difficult time.
Though at the same time it's I mean, Russia's a really interesting example 'cause I think it's very different from Iran, where China's really tried to kind of stay out of it to the degree that it can manage.
Whereas with the Russians, I mean, we see China providing systematic support for the war effort with dual use goods, with financial support, you know, very far from the neutrality that they claim.
It's a great point.
So
President Xi announced a global governance initiative last fall.
And just recently the MFA published a strategy on global governance, taking much more explicit terms to China's ambitions for global leadership.
So, what do you take from these announcements in discerning China's thinking about its own role going forward in upholding?
the order it may be trying to build.
And even as we see China put forward these ambitious terms, you know, s maybe slightly propagandized terms for its vision of global leadership, China's facing very significant pressures at home.
