I don't see how you can man-mark Gareth Bale.
I think it's just trying to put a sort of nail through Mercury or just sort of move everywhere.
I just think he's got that athleticism so he can run away from you.
He's got the technique so he can take the ball away from you.
So I just think...
we were talking to lalana about this it's just the moment he gets the ball you have to press him really quickly just in a group do one of those sort of barcelona type sort of five second swarm all around just to stop him at source and then it's about communication it's about and we haven't got great tacklers at the back but you remember bobby moore against jazinia as he was running and he just timed it he timed it time to nick the ball but the art of tackling is slightly going out of the game although smalling put in a good couple of tackles the other day
And then you just hope that Joe Hart is on his toes and he's a great shot stopper.
The other concern, of course, is just don't give free kicks away 35 yards out because you can see how dangerous Bale is.

It'd be interesting if they play Robson Karno up front because I thought they looked a bit stronger with him up there.
but Bale's a threat Bale is a huge threat but then if you talk to Hodgson Hodgson is quite sort of Corinthian and old school about he almost considers it sort of unethical to man mark and it doesn't really happen so much in the modern game that someone shadows around I mean you look at
how the Irish dealt with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Glenn Whelan was picking up when he came into his area, but you didn't have a sort of dog of war following him around.
Also, I don't think England have actually got anyone who could man mark.
I think you'd have to go back to Paul Parker to have someone with that mobility and that defensive, limpid nature.
