It isn't true that philosophers just construct cases and then have a kind of judgment that is naturally described or even plausibly in any level of possibility described.

Now, it's fascinating, I think, the question why so many people think that's what's going on.
That's a bit of a mystery to me.
Why we are so, you know, if I'm right, there's a kind of very broad confusion about what we are actually doing.

I just mean it as a purely as an empirical claim about the kinds of cases there are supposed to be paradigms of that method that I described.

that in all these cases where we're supposed to be relying on intuitions, that is what we are actually doing.
And I thought, well, it would be helpful.
It would be reasonable to expect that there was some evidence to be found in written texts, for example, some diagnostics that would tell us that that is what's going on.
So I read through the very extensive literature on intuitions and philosophy.
Now, it turns out
There's hardly any agreement on what an intuitive judgment is.
So the received view, the view that we're relying on intuitions, is very hard to interpret just because different proponents of that view mean very, very different things by the intuitive or by an intuitive judgment.
