Suddenly he had this first personal belief, and something happened.
So now here's a question you can ask, given the kinds of diagnostics that are, for example, the three kinds of diagnostics that I outlined earlier.
can we find a presence of any of those three in a judgment that is being made about that case?
So that's the procedure that I had.
I said, I say, well, let's look at Perry's paper.
And then, you know, there's more than a thousand papers written about this later.
So I think we shouldn't look just at his paper.
We should look at the larger context of that literature.
But
But for right now, let's just look at that paper.
Is there any evidence in that paper that he thought it was important what kind of phenomenology he had when he thought about the difference between that guy is making a mess and I'm making a mess?
And there simply isn't any evidence in that paper or in any later discussion that the phenomenology made any difference whatsoever.
Is there any reason to think that he relied or tried to rely on
solely on his conceptual competence when he made a judgment about the difference?
And again, the answer is no.
There's clearly no attempt by Perry or by other people in that tradition to rely solely on their conceptual competence.
Is there any claim in that paper about the difference, the juncture where he switches from that guy's messing a mess to I'm making a mess?
