So it will be interesting to see how they move forward because what's important to note here is that the Trump administration has

The calls for an increase in the amount of arrests have come directly from the Trump administration.

So ICE officials have been told that 2,000 arrests per day was the new goal.

And to put that into context, Claire, when you look back at 2024, that's more than six times the figure.

And so that call has come from the White House.

In terms of the amount of people that are being arrested, the New York Times in late June said that

There was a spate of five days in late June where 10,000 people were arrested.

The New York Times are also reporting that there are now more than 63,000 people

in ice custody in ice facilities across the country and so we're talking about a huge number of people and families that have been impacted by this.

Yeah, absolutely.

I read the same report that you did, Claire, and I also saw, I don't know if you saw yet, but the Human Rights Watch put out a statement earlier this morning about these detention facilities, particularly focusing on Fort Bliss, a facility in Texas that was documented in this New Yorker piece.

And Human Rights Watch make it very clear that there are significant violations of both US and international human rights laws at these facilities.

Like you say, people are now talking about how they were

you know, without sunlight for a month, you know, held in awful, like really, really concerning conditions and left alone without proper medical care.

You know, so there are a lot of really awful stories coming out of these facilities.

I also want to talk about another statistic, if you don't mind, Claire.

Because people are saying to me that live in Ireland, why would the Trump administration continue in these policies?

Because what we're seeing is these headlines.

And just to explain why this is popular amongst some of the Trump base.
