I mean, in the primaries, the Democrat primaries in June, he very easily unseated a very popular governor in Maine.
And this was off the back of a lot of scandal right up to that.
So it's not to say that these latest allegations are the only thing that have come out about Graham Plattner.
You know, he, while he had the endorsement of, you know, senior Democrats really to the left of the party, like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, there were a lot of controversies, Clare.
You know, there was talks of this Nazi tattoo that was being covered up and a lot of really damaging allegations made by former partners of his.
really, really awful comments that he had made online back in the day.
So there's been a number of different scandals that I think the support has on the national scale, you know, ebbed away from him.
But in Maine, it seemed that he was still very, very popular.
And what's interesting to note here is what he was running for.
So he was running for a Senate seat this November in the midterms.
And he was trying to unseat a Republican senator called Susan Collins.
Now, Susan Connell is, you know, I think on her fifth term in office, been there since the late 1990s and very senior Republican.
But this is the political nerd in me care.
It is important to note that she is currently the only Republican in Congress representing a state that Democrats won in the twenty twenty four presidential election.
So the Democrat Party were very confident that they could defeat her.
in these November midterms and they need to do so because, you know, as I go back to when I was talking about Mitch McConnell, there's 53 Republican seats and the Democrats really need to turn over at least four seats and keep all their own.
And Maine was really looking like, up until a few weeks ago, their best chance to do that.
And there's a lot of pressure now to figure out who's going to replace them.
Oh my God, it's really fascinating.
And you just see, you know what you see more than anything is just the very clear fractures there are within the party.
