Such as?
Such as finding someone or identifying someone you can trust and seeing what you might be able to ask that person for.
Who's likely to say yes?
See what it feels like.
When you ask for help and someone says yes and you're not disappointed, let's test it out there in some small way rather than asking for some big amount of help from someone where the outcome is unknown.
And so we'll test it out in small ways, which helps them build confidence that, oh yeah, there are people out there who will show up for me.
There are people who will help me there.
I can trust that that will happen and also build tolerance
for in some instances or situations where maybe someone has to say no and it doesn't feel crushing, like a crushing disappointment.
And we'll work on that so that then they can start asking for some bigger things later.

And in layperson's terms, it means a bad thing happened once.
What will prevent a bad thing from happening again, even when it is so statistically improbable that it will happen?
We all know people for whom tragedy occurs multiple times.
We've already been vulnerable to one loss, one big loss, and maybe one we weren't expecting, especially if our mom died suddenly.
So what's to keep it from happening again?
So we organize our lives around...
trying to prevent that from happening again.
That can look like controlling behaviors to other people.
Really what it is, is an attempt to create safety for ourselves and others, because that was rocked when a mom died, right?
