He goes to the cinema, he goes to the theatre.

I mean, the carers, they're planning to take him to a cruise, a Walt Disney cruise they're planning to take him on.

And Legoland in Windsor, they're planning to take him to as well.

He's got a much more social life than I've got.

It is a weird existence.

I mean, and, you know, people care much more about the fictional character I created, John Rebus, than they do me.

They're not at all interested if I've got aches and pains.

But if he's got aches and pains, oh, is Rebus okay?

I think they're actually more invested in his dog.

Oh, how's the dog getting on?

What about me?

You know, I could be dying here.

Nobody cares.

That is a weird existence.

I mean, these voices inside my head, I just, what I do is sit all day and play with these voices inside my head.

And it's just a very strange, it is a strange existence.

And writers become writers because they're usually quite solitary individuals anyway.

But then to play the game, you've then got to go off and tour and be gregarious and stand up and talk for 40 minutes and all the rest of it.

It doesn't come naturally to many writers.

So it's a weird Jekyll and Hyde existence.
