Well, insofar as I think I chose the name of my character in my books, I called him John Rebus, and I think the John comes from John Shaft.
Um, that's about as much, that's about as far as it goes.
Um, uh, he's never, Rebus has never had to investigate the ghettos.
You know what I mean?
He's never, uh, never had to pimp his ride or anything like that.
Uh, but, but the music was fantastic.
Um, uh, and, uh, and you know, I had this little record player.
It was a Dan set mono record player that my parents had bought for my big sister, my older sister for her birthday.
But I was the one who was more excited, uh,
When that arrived in the house.
It was kind of weird because eventually at the age of 14, I'd gone to the local secondary school and then they said, oh, you're brainy enough to go to the high school, the senior high.
My school would sort of kick you out at 16 and you'd go and get a job in the dockyard or you'd join the armed forces or the police.
But I could go to the senior high school, which was a bus ride away where you had to wear a uniform and you could prepare for college or university.
And most of what I was doing was kind of pretending to be like everybody else in my village.
All the guys in my village would wear Doc Martin boots and hang around the street corner frowning at passing traffic.
So I was pretty good at doing that.
But then when they all said, oh, right, we're going off to fight the next village over.
We're going to have a mass battle with them.
