There are so many different levels to the way that this is systemically oppressing people who could be benefiting.

And also, if you fall prey to the cult of charity scams, you might then become really skeptical about donating or giving quote unquote handouts to other people.

And it may alter your ability to trust others and perform empathy in everyday life.

It's emotional manipulation.

This is so wild to me because in the world of charity scams, any random pedestrian on the street is able to become their own cult leader, essentially using people's empathy, guilt, human emotion, desire to connect against them.

And if you think about it, using jargon that they then are scared to

to look further into or learn more about to make them feel like they have no choice but to donate.

And also like the barrier to entry is so low because you just have to make a transfer or you click a button and then never think about it again, that joining has never been easier.

The cost is honestly how much you're able to or willing to give and how many times

have I, not to keep bringing this back to myself, like donated to a GoFundMe and the entire bio is full of medical jargon that I don't understand and have never known someone to go through a similar journey.

And I dismiss it as, you know, me not knowing anything about the field of medicine and think to myself, I am so lucky.

I am so privileged.

I am healthy.

I need to go out of my way to make sure that I can give back.

And ultimately, I never think to myself that I could be susceptible to someone who is starting a all-powerful cult.

And I wonder what the exit cost then would be because ultimately a lot of people who donate to charities as a one-off have already chosen their overall cost.
