I found it very atmospheric.

And building on the start of the novel, I was fascinated by the narrator.

I thought she had all the qualities of a bad narrator.

Unreliable, limited, relatively intrusive.

And I think she had something like...

What I describe as a noisy mind, like just constantly overthinking, not very mindful in that sense.

I felt like, well, at times she felt things, she didn't see things.

So when she talks about her neighbours talking about her or she can feel them talking about her.

Or they're looking through the glass.

She can feel them looking through the glass.

And I was never convinced that any of that was actually happening.

This idea that she was feeling things rather than seeing things.

And I very much enjoyed it.

If I had one reservation, I think it might be the slight predictability.

as things went on.

And maybe that's just with the advent of true crime and that kind of thing these days, we might be expecting something a little less predictable or a revelation moment.

So that might be my one sort of reservation.

Yeah, and that's one of the things that makes Mary Cath so fascinating, is how flawed she is in many ways.

I've mentioned the narration, we've mentioned these strange ideas that she has, but I think she is very much in control of that narrative, of her world narrative, and in turn she tries to affect ours.
