Absolutely, Chuck.

You know, in certain parts of the country.

Namely the South, when people say LA, they're talking about lower Alabama.

But a little surprisingly this Alabama themed episode, when I say the opening scene is set in LA, I mean Los Angeles.

Maybe it's not so surprising if you know where I'm from.

Specifically this scene takes place at LAX, the sprawling city's sprawling airport.

It's nineteen seventy.

That year the NCD LA added an eleventh game to the college football schedule, and most schools use that as an opportunity to add a cupcake opponent and pick up an easy W.

Alabama's Paul Bear Bryant had a different idea.

So he flew to LA to meet with his good friend John McKay, the coach at USC.

McKay drove to the airport to meet him.

They get together at the airport lounge for Western Airlines.

It's a now defunct carrier with white and red planes, similar to the planes for the also now defunct TWA.

It's a little aviation history for you there.

In the meeting, Brian tells McKay, I'd like to give you a hundred and fifty thousand dollars to come to Birmingham to play us in the opener this year.

Okay, puffs on a cigar, of course you could smoke in indoor at the airport lounges back then.

That's that's pretty good, Paul.

What if I offer you two fifty and you come back and play us the following year in LA?

They shake hands and the deal is done.
