Yeah, and following that nineteen sixty-nine season, Bryant met with Miami Dolphins owner Joe Robbie, who offered him the head coaching job of the Dolphins.

They actually came to a verbal agreement.

It was a five-year, one point seven million dollar deal that included stock options and a car.

The Dolphins even threw in an extra ten thousand dollar to cover expenses for Bryant's wife to travel back and forth from Miami to Birmingham.

All that was left was for Bryant to tell the folks at Alabama that he was leaving, which he fully intended to do.

He did.

Yeah, and and he'd gone so far as to consult with Joe Namath, his former quarterback, who was now a professional football player, and you know, asked him what he thought about it.

And he's and Namath said, you know, in that Namath voice, you know, hey, they got Bob Greasy's the best quarterback, one of the best quarterbacks.

They got Larry Zonka.

It's a good team.

It was, you know, and and uh

But also looking back, it shouldn't have been that surprising that he stayed.

I mean, the NFL had just gotten to the top of the the American sports pyramid at the end of the sixties, right?

You had the landmark TV deal in the mid-sixties.

So the NFL surpasses baseball.

But really prior to that time, college football had ranked ahead of the NFL and baseball had been ahead of the NFL.

So, you know, that generation
