And so when we're talking about it the notion of pain, I really do think
That is essentially bound up with the concept of consciousness.
There's no such thing as pain that it's not like something to have.
And I also think that, um, I don't know if you would agree, but I I think that it's just that pain is straightforwardly bad.
And so since it since it is normatively laden, there's no such thing as like morally neutral pain.
Um, I think paying for any creature that experiences it uh is bad and we should care about it.
So that and that's kind of like the base the baseline for moral consideration.
Once you've got a creature that can experience a state like pain, well then
It matters now morally.
And then we can have a discussion about like how much it matters, but it now is entered into the moral calculus.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think I mean the way that there are a number of ways to handle to handle this, but um I mean you've suggested a couple.
I would want to say that the the pain in such a case still is bad.
Um it's bad in itself, but the overall state of affairs of undergoing the the procedure, the operation or whatever, um is is good.
Um, right, because it's possible for an overall good state of affairs to also
involve some stuff with dad, right?
So it might be like all considered, might be good for me to undergo the treatment, but that doesn't mean that the pain that I'm experiencing in the process is good.
It's still dad.
So I do I do have a view about this that I am in the process of rolling out on my substack.
I I wrote about this in my dissertation, which no one should read, but maybe some people should read the the substacks.
