And so with the Steelers, Mike Webster is both representative of the stability, the fact that he was a starting center at that brutal, toll-taking position for 14 years, and then his successor, Dermotty Dawson, is the starting center for 10 years.

So he's representative of this kind of core...

tough, stable ethos of the Steelers.

And yet he's also representative of the downside.

So all the mental health issues that come with the toll that football takes on you and the fact that he died, I think it was at age 50, but early in his 50s, the number of Steelers that died young.

because of the sport that they played in the era in which they played it.

And you wonder if it, yes, was exacerbated perhaps by the steroid use.

So the good and the bad is part of it.
