We will run a budgetary surplus this year that's up to €9 billion.
We'll have €24 billion set aside by the end of the year in our two long-term savings funds.
But also we need to better use the base of spending that has increased over the last number of years.
And that's why I'm as focused on extracting greater delivery from the existing levels of spend and ensuring my ministerial colleagues focus as much on efficiencies and savings within their own base of spend
People driving to work this morning want to see better value for money.
They want to see the public service deliver more for the level of spending that we have.
But they want to see it.
They want to see, of course, every state can deliver better across the level of spend.
And I've published the medium term, our mid-year expenditure report last week, which looked at the huge exponential increases in spending in critical areas in health and education.
and in other areas where we have seen improvements of service delivery, but we can do better.
We can better deploy public service staff, for example, on the front line, rather than, you know, the levels of administration and management growth, which we saw in recent years.
So it's again, it's about priorities and trade-offs and how we frame the budget.

Well, we're slowing it.
We're slowing it.
We're slowing it on day to day spending.
And that's to do for two or three reasons.
First of all, to manage the risk which is there.
I will not agree to a budgetary framework which risks Ireland's future.
And I think people expect us in managing their taxpayers money to be very careful in the decisions that we make.
