And that's something we need to consider as well.
But what I would say is that balanced against that is an expenditure package which is substantial.
You compare it to many other jurisdictions across the European Union which have much smaller levels of growth in day-to-day spending.
And this is about, again, affordability of childcare being a real priority for us.
but also investment in disability services and special education, those frontline areas where we know there's pressure on families and them seeing improved outcomes and service delivery.
I think people will see the upside of that where we reflect on our wider priorities.
So I've discussed this with Norma Foley at the moment actually on how we make a move in this budget and there's various ways we can do that and obviously we'll set out the detail of it on Budget Day
But we will prioritise and make a move on affordability of childcare.
It's a real priority for the government, real priority for Minister Foley.
And again, it's something that I think gives a hardworking family something back in a budgetary context that's tangible, that's meaningful.
of what you're thinking?
It's a pathway towards our programme for government commitment and last year the actual budgetary allocation childcare increased by 10% but some of that increase was to reflect the big move we'd made in the previous year's budget and I think we will have the space in 2027 to make a move on childcare that people will see the difference on budget day and again we'll be able to detail the cash difference on budget day when we agree the actual settlement and that's still to be discussed but we
Well, look, it depends on their income and their circumstances.
But I think looking at a variety of interventions, whether it's on childcare, whether it's on income tax, whether it's on, you know, progressing the local investment in transport, for example, which is accelerating infrastructure investments so that that's something that will benefit families.
I think people will see
you know, the improvement on a day-to-day basis in 2027 from the measures.
We've been clear that cost of living is a priority for us.
There's various ways we can intervene in that sense as well, childcare being one.
You know, how do we use the social protection system to benefit low-income families?
And also the income tax package as well, which is about looking at tax credits and thresholds to best support work.
