Hold on a second, playing a little tennis.
Didn't you tear your Achilles tendon at some point?
It's possible to play in a boot, so I've been...
No, maybe sort of some staycations.
Look, there's a lot going on here.
We live in such a beautiful part of the world, even though we take it for granted and even though the winter is tough.
I'm all about staying around here.
So full disclosure, I don't know Dan personally, but he went to McGill.
He played there.
We have a lot of friends in common because I also went to McGill.
I worked for the hockey team there.
I've only heard great things about him.
Having coached at the AHL level, I just think the most challenging thing about being head coach at the AHL level is you don't have a whole lot of control over your situation in the sense that the lineup is set by the NHL team because of their development priorities.
So you may need to put a younger player who's not quite ready on
on power play one because you know the the nhl team wants to see that player succeed or you know you may have to keep some veterans out of the lineup because of the veteran group um so it's a bit of a unique situation because nowhere else in hockey essentially do you have so little control even as a head coach of the players that you're putting on the ice at any given moment or the players that you're putting in the lineup so that's the first difficulty the second difficulty is
Yeah, and for the past couple of years, I think Laval's done a really good job of walking that fine line, which isn't easy to do.
When I was with the Toronto Marlies, we had some really great seasons because we had a lot of resources in terms of bringing in established AHL veterans who are really good players at that level to support the young players.
And we also had a number of really good young players who wound up becoming good NHLers as well.
But certainly, you know, when you, when you're the head coach, you know, you, you're the person who's accountable.
You're the person who's looking to sort of control that situation.
