I made friends with an alien.
But you didn't have friends growing up?
Not friends like other people have friends, I think.
I never really trusted the people that I was friends with.
So it wasn't like I walked around on my own all the time.
I was part of a group or I was included in some way, but I never felt like I was part of something.
And I think I've often written about best friends and friendship because I think I've always wanted one.
And I don't think I really had a best friend until the age of 32.
And then I married her, and I'm still married to her.
Thankfully.

And my son is nine.
He's about to turn 10.
I think he's going to be fine, actually.
But I remember having this thought when I was 10, which is not, I don't have any friends.
It was the thought that I might never have any friends.
You know, just that sort of sudden realization that the world... Because I think boys, and it's so interesting watching a boy grow up and watching the girls in the playground versus the boys in the playground.
The girls are so sophisticated so early.
They're making sophisticated arrangements between themselves.
