Well, you've already given me some examples that put kisses in a completely different context.
And so when you're reading something from that period, we tend to think of the kiss as, at least in literature, as being sort of the culmination.
You know, maybe the plot is building toward the kiss.
certainly Hollywood has kind of adopted that framework that when the two come together for the kiss, that might be something that happens in the penultimate scene.
But to think of it in terms of something outside the realm of romantic love, or that if it is romantic love, it's also in the context of

Makes it interesting to go back and look at some of those famous kisses and to see, well, what would that have meant to those people at that time?
And it seems like we can't distance ourselves from the connection between a kiss and the erotic.

Yeah, yeah.
Oh, that really does put it into perspective.
It's like the, you know, different times where people will say, like, swear on your children's life, or I swear on my mother's grave, or I swear to God, would you take an oath on the Bible?
You know, and it sort of gives us an understanding of just how important that thing is in society or to that person that they might say, well, I'm willing to lie to your face,
but I'm not willing to swear on my mother's life, you know, or something like that, that they take something a little more seriously than that.
I didn't realize that a kiss could be like that.
