The 15th Amendment became the law on February the 3rd, 1870.
And the first African-American got elected to the House of Representatives and sworn in on December 12, 1870.
And then between then and 1897, there were 22 African-Americans elected to Congress.
After 1901, it went to zero.
Zero.
And to say that way until Oscar de la Prince got elected in 1920s up in Chicago, in South Carolina where we had eight, I'm the ninth.
But there are 95 years between number eight and number nine.
Why?
Because of the Supreme Court decisions, because of legislative actions, the same kind of Supreme Court decisions we're getting now.
We got back.
in the 1870s, which led to this elimination of Black participation in the United States Congress, as well as suppressing Black voters.
This decision on yesterday opens the floodgates.
Florida has already
passed a law as soon as that case was over.
They passed it yesterday.
Oh, well, they had the first reading of it.
It hadn't passed both bodies yet.
And Louisiana stated today that they're going to suspend.
Though they've already started voting there, they're going to suspend.
Now there are discussions going on about what they're going to do in South Carolina, what they're going to do in Missouri.
