And Kirsty talked about this, and she's exactly right, that there were these two schools of thought about what would happen next.
Would we, Scotland, in the words of the former um Westlothian MP Tam D.
L, end up on a devolutionary coach down a motorway without exits to, as he put it, a separate Scottish state?
Or would we, in the in the words of um the former Secretary of the United States?
Secretary General of NATO and former Scottish Secretary Lord Robertson George Robertson, you know, would devolution kill nationalism or kill the SNP, stone dead?
And as Kirsty rightly said in the 97 episode, neither of those really happened.
And it within a very short space of time, 1999 just to 2007, the SNP have built power, have gained control of the Scottish government.
Government or the Scottish Executive, as it was known initially, and they use that as a power base and they use their control of the Scottish government to build the case for their running Scotland and for there being an independence referendum.
And then they win a majority in 2011, which allows them to negotiate with the UK government.
A referendum is within the power, it remains within the power of the UK government.
It's reserved to Westminster.
And
David Cameron agrees to hold it and here we are.
