yeah we'll bring him in see where we can make improvements good contact rate it's so like the idea that he's been able to build up power i know i think he was already independently like he had gone the driveline in the offseason and try to like juice his bad speed and that kind of added element to his game that otherwise looked like all right kind of fringy like can put the ball in play fourth outfielder type where now it's like somebody who you know hits home runs in five straight games and stuff like that um it's it's really been kind of uh it's arguably been the biggest revelation they've had a season certainly vargas

But Gleeson Vargas made this leap from solid regular to all-star, whereas Peters went from a guy who's literally getting DFA'd by the Rays in the middle of the winter to now seemingly a building block going forward.

But one thing, they traded for Brenton Doyle at the deadline, and it's kind of like a tilt your head at it move.

in terms of like well you already had a center fielder and also this guy's struggling can he really give you an immediate upgrade and the answer would be no but they kind of point and turn around like it's allowed us to like turn around and just hard platoon tristan peters and tristan peters just focusing on righties hits pretty well and like they felt like that was part of like maybe him having that big august was maybe narrowing his focus a little bit so i think he's like

the very, maybe one of the higher end role players in the American League, but it also kind of shows a bit in like, they haven't dumped like, hey, you're our leadoff guy, 700 plate appearances.

We're going to task you with all these things you haven't necessarily done at a sustainable level before.

I think part of his effectiveness this season is kind of deploying him judiciously, really kind of focusing on his strengths and not maybe overexposing him, even as he's, you know, maybe tracking towards like a four or five win season.

A little.

I would say like the first start in Houston looked better.

I feel like that's when he had more of like a four seamer that he was able to work at the top of the zone.

And then, you know, his huge suite of like secondaries, he goes to pitch off of that.

Pittsburgh, it kind of felt like he was white knuckling a little bit through and then, you know, got through five innings and wasn't missing a ton of bats.

Maybe settled in a little bit more the second time through the order in terms of just like getting ahead of guys.

So, like, Burke I had talked to, and it's funny because, like, as I said, when you're in a playoff race, you just wind up writing, like, five columns all the time.

But, like, Burke, like, I talked to in a way where he had gotten back to –

he had been shrinking down his mid-start routine because of like, they were trying to manage fatigue and he wound up like ditching his long toss program.

And he felt like he was like no longer getting behind the baseball and throwing his forcing.

He felt like he was cutting everything as a result.
