So I I should have explained that.
Maybe I'll be wrong, and it would be probably good for the world if I am wrong.
But I think at the moment the level of rivalry between the two superpowers is so intense that they won't have a meeting of minds on this, and that will leave the
rest of the world and and us in the West with this unenviable choice.
Do we go with the US technology stack, US regulations, you know, and all of the allegiances and alliances that we have with the US as our biggest partner?
Or do we go with a lean-fitter Chinese model that will be updating at warp speed, that will be being used all over the global south?
So there
is really a very different choice.
The last thing to say is that so far Chinese models are open weight or open source.
I want I want to just introduce one little caveat.
It's not true to say that all American models are closed.
Nvidia has got some open weight models that it's just come out with.
We should never underestimate the power of American technology companies, especially a company like NVIDIA.
So
it isn't a complete choice between open and closed China and the US.
There are some critical nuances involved, but to me, for countries in the West, the big choice is do we go the China route or do we go the US route?
I started off by saying China's moving fast and breaking things, but I didn't say what it's breaking.
And I think the main stress in China is jobs.
China already has 320 million people who work in the gig economy.
It's a really fragile employment market, and there's no question that AI is taking people's jobs.
