Maybe in ten years' time, if I have got my foot in the employment ladder, I'll be wanting to move on in my in my job and I'll find that my path is blocked by a load of people in their seventies who are doing the jobs that I want to do in my
forties or or late thirties, aren't we just looking at the problem completely the wrong way?
What would you say to that criticism?
How well equipped do you think the UK is to handle this challenge compared to other countries?
Are there other countries that are still doing well on this that we should be looking at and thinking we should be more like hex?
And in these societies where that are transitioning to this more, I guess, perhaps progressive view of ageing, do you think it's something the public will naturally get behind?
I'm interested in what some of the challenges will be for making this world come into being.
I I I guess one argument that might be made is that we are going through a huge economic revolution with artificial intelligence that some people are seeing as a kind of second industrial revolution.
Is the a worst case scenario in which we end up
trying to reskill a load of people who've been in the economy for a long time but are entirely un ill-equipped to deal with a transformed economic landscape.
If you are a, you know, a great AI booster, you might believe the world of work will look utterly different in ten or twenty years' time.
And is that going to be a challenge?
And could that make this sort of progressive look at how older people are going to continue in the workforce a bit more difficult?
How realistic is this later life training going to be?
Some people will perhaps be listening who are my age and thinking of that trying to the idea of trying to train their parents to use AI or how to code, and they may feel perhaps a little pessimistic about how how plausible that is in the real world.
Do you think that's just ageism, or will there be genuine challenges to training up older people in this unbelievably fast-paced
Age of economic and you know computer driven change that we're entering.
Something else that might be difficult to get our heads around psychologically is that I think for a lot of people, retirement really shines out at the end of their lives as an ambition, something that's driving them in their careers.
Th there's a trend recently, I don't know if you've seen any of these articles about people aspiring to retire at increasingly uh to me, ludicrously young ages.
People saying, you know, I've lived a hair shirt existence through my twenties, thirties and forties, and my ambition is to retire at forty five.
