having you know, a lot of these people seem to be trying to live off sort of, you know, pea soup and water until they can finally be free.
And what about those people for whom retirement is the goal of their life and maybe even early retirement and getting out of the workforce as soon as possible?
is something that thinking about.
And I guess I didn't think these are just people in manual jobs who find their bodies degrading through manual work.
If we're rethinking retirement, I think in a lot of ways we're rethinking what is for a lot of people the purpose and goal of and goal of their life.
Is there also a case that people perhaps have a slightly rosy image of retirement and the benefits of later life work that they're not appreciating?
Both of my parents, um my dad's a teacher, my mum works for the uh council in Newcastle, retired and then decided they didn't like it as much as they thought they would, and then unretired.
And do you think
there are benefits to working later in life, like cognitively or for your health or socially that people might be missing that you'd want to say, you might think it's a fantastic idea to retire and you know, when you're twenty five.
Actually that might not be the utopia that it looks like.
Th there's one final thing I wanted to ask you, which is perhaps I might think, Oh, well, you know, this later life working, I'll wait until I'm like sixty and start thinking about it then.
Do you think I should be looking at my career differently?
Or do you think anybody who's listening to this in their thirties or twenties even should be looking at their career differently with the knowledge that they might be working later?
Do you think that should change how younger people are thinking about what their future looks like?

I think there are loads of fascinating things that came out of that conversation.
I guess the first one is her more optimistic take on the aging population, which we've heard so many times is a negative thing.

For a lot of people talking about the challenges of an aging population, that is a problem that has to be solved.
