You're not protecting your children by not getting divorced.
What you're choosing is what lesson they're going to learn.
So
Can they learn the lesson that two people can end a marriage and still have affection for each other and still love their children and co-parent in a productive way?
That's a valuable lesson to teach someone that things end and that sometimes when they end, it's okay because things are supposed to end and make room for new things because every new beginning came from some other beginning's end.
Like, isn't that a lesson worth teaching children?
So
High conflict family dynamics, whether they end in people staying together and gutting it out for the kids.
Or whether it's a conflict filled post divorce life where people have a contentious co parent relationship, yeah, it's bad for kids.
It's bad for kids to have loyalty binds and parents who hate each other and who weaponize their affection for the children against each other.
Yes, terrible for children.
That doesn't have a lot to do with divorce.
That has to do with how you approach divorce.
That has to do with how you approach your co-parenting relationship.
But staying together, quote unquote, for the kids is very often, yeah, I just don't want to do this.
