He likes to look around.
He likes to really think about the process.
And I'm sure he followed that same process here with Richard Seeley.
The other thing, of course, is Ryan Johnson has been absolutely locked in on the AHL for years, right?
Going back to his time with the Utica Comets as the GM there.
And then, of course, with the Abbotsford Canucks as the GM as well, he knows that league.
He knows that league very well.
Clearly, Seeley has done something to stand out, to get noticed by Ryan Johnson.
As Drance pointed out on Halford & Brough this morning, you look at Sealy's resume, and we should note he's from Powell River, BC as well, so a BC guy getting the opportunity to work for the Vancouver Canucks, but you look at Sealy's resume, grinding in the ECHL, grinding in the AHL, that means he's going to be very comfortable doing different roles, managing a significant workload, putting in the hours, putting in the hard work.
which is, as Grant and I have talked about, something that this Canucks organization needs.
And again, it feels like a direct replacement for Ryan Johnson, who was doing a lot of the heavy lifting in the Canucks front office, certainly at the beginning of the Rutherford and Albion tenure, and then really throughout, he was a guy doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
Now, that's on the positive side, and there's some other positive stuff I can get into as well.
Where I have concerns a little bit with this hire, and it doesn't have anything to do with Seeley himself.
I'm not going to pretend that I know a lot about the guy, but what I've heard so far seems to be that he was very well regarded, highly thought of, and seems like he's got a really good chance to be an asset for the Canucks front office.
i keep coming back to this idea if i look at who the canucks have assembled in the front office and i think you know their strengths i think are going to be very strong i think what this front office does well they're going to do very well and that's on the player development side that's on the building culture side that's on the identifying character empowering a front office all of those things i think they're going to be very good at that
my concern is whether they have enough different skill sets and different points of view and backgrounds represented in the front office and my preference for this one we all knew that an agm hire was coming at some point soon here for the canucks and in trance's one-on-one with with rj that ran earlier this week
You know, RJ made it clear that it was going to be an Abbotsford-focused hire.
My preference, to be honest, would have been to hire an AGM who could, rather than having more of a player development background, bring that kind of extra level of strategy and creativity.
Now, whatever you want to call it, right?
