Could that even extend to player personnel independent of the salary cap for the Canucks?
And I'll say this on experience.
Because I understand you're looking at a lot of people in roles they have never done before.
Whether that's the Sedins, Ryan Johnson, Manny Malhotra, Darren Hermiston makes the jump in a lower capacity in the front office, Richard Seeley now making the jump to a role he hasn't done before.
So it has all been rookie hires.
And I completely understand the desire to say, hey, let's get somebody in who just has been around the block, has done this job before, can show us the ropes, and give us a little bit of guidance.
And maybe there is a, you know, I know they have Jim Rutherford as an advisor, as a consultant still, but he's back in Carolina, so I don't know how much advising and consulting he's really going to be doing.
Can you get somebody in more of a kind of full-time advisor consultant capacity who's going to be around a lot more, who's done the job?
That might be a possibility.
But I also think about it, you know, if I had to choose...
Okay, they can make one more ad to the front office, and it's either going to be a former general manager who you're bringing in for experience, or it's going to be a really bright, up-and-coming, big-picture thinker.
I would take the bright, up-and-coming, big-picture thinker all day.
And that's not to discount experience.
I just think that is the more pressing need.
for the Canucks front office right now.
I think there's also a couple of different ways you can look at the hires that Ryan Johnson has made so far.
And again, we're talking about Manny Malhotra behind the bench, Darren Hermiston, former agent in the front office, and now Richard Seeley.
And on the one hand, you can look at this and say, ah, this team's cheaping out.
They don't have the budget.
