In some respects, and I might be stretching here a little bit, it feels a little Adam Foote-coded to me.

And the reason I say that, in some ways, that's very unfair to Jim Hiller because his resume as an NHL assistant, he's an NHL head coach, and whatever you think of his work, he did it for parts of three seasons.

Longtime Babcock assistant, longtime Trotz assistant.

Unlike Adam Foote, who didn't last there.

So it's actually unfair.

He was an assistant on Babcock's staff in Toronto, and I wonder if there is some sort of really positive pre-existing relationship with Austin Matthews, right?

Because so much of the Adam Foote hire was driven by Quinn Hughes really likes this guy, and the Leafs are going into that phase with Austin Matthews of the, will he stay?

Will he ask for a trade?

Are they going to have to move this guy?

We all know where they finished in the standings this year, and I wonder how much of it is

We're up against it from a roster-building standpoint here with all of our problems on the blue line.

Now, we did get the first overall pick, and that's incredible, but there's only so much we can do to make this team competitive is the best we can do in our coaching hire to kind of throw a Hail Mary and bet on a personal relationship to keep this star.

I don't think it's going to work, but I do wonder if that plays into it at all, because otherwise it just seems so underwhelming.

I totally agree with demanding more and wanting to go to organizations where you have a chance to win.
