That this emphasis on clarity of communication can actually be used against the attacking team by the defensive team.
Right.
So that inherent unpredictability, let's say in Leverkusen's attack, will they attack the middle?
Will they attack the side?
We don't know.
That's an advantage, right?
Because like you say, it creates an unstable situation for the defenders.
I'll give another example, just as you're speaking there, talking about back fives against the more classical positional teams.
Enzo Maresca, he's been explicit in some press conferences about...
having difficulty in breaking down back five teams.
And that would, I think, be for reasons that we're discussing here, right?
Because there are pretty clear processes in the way a team like Maresca wants to attack.
A lot of the actions are quite repetitive, effective.
When I say repetitive in these kinds of words, it doesn't mean that it's not effective, right?
Because
God knows repetitive things that can be effective in the world, right?
That's for sure.
I'm not saying that that doesn't work.
Clearly, it has an effect.
But okay, if you're studying that and they have guys in the five channels positioned to receive balls, then okay, put five in the back line, mark them tight, and they're going to be struggling oftentimes to find solutions to that.
