And it's a world I don't recognize very well, I have to admit, because I always looked at America's strengths um in terms of our alliances.

And saw the strengthening of our alliances, whether that's with Canada, with Europeans, with Asians, with Africans, with Middle Eastern countries, as a way for America to be unique among world powers in the in history that has voluntary relationships with so many countries and makes our global power different than powers uh like China, which are seeking to dominate their

uh their their friends and have no real alliances.

Or the British who dominated through imperialism, or the Romans who dominated through domination and war.

America's alliances were voluntary.

And that's what made them so powerful.

And when 9-11 happened, voluntarily these other countries came to our defense.

And so I believed when we left office we had strengthened our

Alliances and even seen something unique happen, where European countries were working together with Asian countries for the first time to uh deal with the threat from Russia and from China.

Um, Europeans had turned around from thinking China was going to be their friend with an investment treaty to wanting to de-risk from China the way the United States did.

And Asian countries saw the war in Ukraine the same way we did.

So Europe's and Asia's response to Putin's war was bringing the world together in a dramatic way in partnerships where we had the same values, the same goals, the same objectives uh of a of a of a world of of of rules and rights, where every country uh is r has a certainly the right to not be invaded.

Um and that has changed.

um in recent years.

And the world has become much more anarchic.

And uh President Trump's approach has been much more focused on being friendly with uh Russia and China and being adversarial with our allies than uh the administrations before him.

And so far I don't see how that has been good for us.

I don't see how we're better off uh

Um uh I think an analytically speaking, America is stronger when we have allies.
