It's this massively overlooked area of outstanding beauty.

You know, Loch Nye was one of the first wetlands to be given a designation of significant interest in the world, right?

way back in I think it was the early 70s and yet it's incredibly inaccessible.

There are huge parts of it you can't get to without clambering through boggy fields and people's back gardens.

There's no path that goes the whole way around it and as you're saying a lot of people in the north have never been to Loch Nye.

But you would be open to coming back.

Absolutely.

And it's one of the things I really hope with this novel that people take a look, a fresh look at this incredible resource.

A lot of our water goes there.

A lot of our water comes from there.

It's the biggest freshwater lake in the UK and Ireland.

And it's beautiful.

And the wildlife that's there is incredible.

And, you know, one of the things I wanted to do when I was researching was read other writers who'd written about Loch Nye.

There's Heaney's Loch Nye cycle.

There's a Kieran Carson and a couple of other novels we haven't engaged with artistically.

So it would be lovely to see more people getting to know Loch Nye.

I did.

I'm a lazy researcher.

I've always previously written about things that I know inside out.
