So we haven't seen it in the north, but it's not unbelievable that it would happen.
I think we were talking about this last week, Wendy Erskine and myself, and I think people want to simplify trauma and say this is troubles related trauma because.
You know, a bad thing happened to somebody during the troubles.
But there's this culture of like domestic violence and depression, how we deal with mental health issues.
And it's muddy.
You can't maybe trace the route straight back.
But it comes from having this society that has lived with trauma for such a long time.
You know, they talk about the body keeps the score.
It's so ingrained in a lot of people because of maybe not even what they saw, but what the community that they've grown up in saw and witnessed.
And it's more difficult to separate it into these neat little boxes.
We are, as a whole, a traumatised community.
You know, I remember hearing somebody say once that it would have been good for the whole of the North to go through therapy for a few years.
That's not possible.
You have to just keep going.
There's a lot of extended metaphors in this book.
I think I've spent too much time around poets in the North.
But there is a whole theme of toxic masculinity that runs through this with R.J.
Connolly, who is the anthropologist and his relationship, particularly with his son, Robert John, who we meet in his late 50s.
And again, there's been a wonderful amount written about toxic masculinity with young men.
I wanted to look at what happens to a man in later life if they've been a victim of toxic masculinity and not really dealt with it.
