Despite everything, that is the most exciting place to be a writer on the planet at the minute.

I get to travel all the time.

Belfast Book Festival is launching on Monday.

And it will be hiving with emerging voices and diversity and people writing about their own stories.

So it's not just one narrative anymore.

And young people and older people.

And there's something really healthy happening in the arts scene at the minute.

We could do with a good deal more funding for it.

But the voices are there and they're finding each other.

And they're... Yeah, it's just... I get such a buzz just wandering around Belfast at the minute.

There is and it's peculiar to being a Northern writer.

I notice it very much when I'm travelling with writers from the South.

They get asked about their books and characters in practice.

I get asked, how does this impact, you know, with the peace process and like, what's the political significance of your work?

And I,

I don't mind that.

I see that as an honour.

But I also reserve the right for other writers who are coming from the north to not have to carry that because it is a huge, heavy weight to carry.
