I'm Jane Chambers, finding out how businesses in the local community manage to get their daily needs in Chile's remote Patagonia, and what new solutions companies are coming up with to help them.

Back on the road in Patagonia, we drive around Lake General Carrera to a town called Puerto Tranquilo, which has become a big tourist destination because of the blue-toned, naturally sculpted marble caves on the lake, which people visit in boats and kayaks.

In the local supermarket, Campos del Hielo, the owner, Edita Poblete, tells me about how they used to keep the shelves stocked when she started out.

Now we're in your shop, got everything from crisps to jam to cheese to fruit and veg to wine to chocolate.

How do you manage to keep it so well stocked?

But people are still buying.

But at least Edita doesn't have to travel to Coyhaique anymore to buy her stock.

What's the solution to make it cheaper?

I think it will take a long time to find a solution.

I'm not sure that dream's going to happen any time soon.

Santiago is about 1,900 kilometres further north and it currently takes around 29 hours to drive there, including getting various ferries.

The coastal town of Puerto Montt is often described as the gateway to Chile's Patagonia.

The Carretera Austral highway starts here, although you still need to get a ferry to the next section.

I'm here to meet Claudio Salazar, the chief technology officer of a company called Patagonia Cloud.
