Yes, I truly believe that.
I mean, whether or not he was the abuser or he was the abused when he was growing up in the foster care system in the U.S.,
I truly believe that from early on, it was a very dysfunctional upbringing.
Then he ends up going from care home to care home, from foster home to foster home.
And whether he alleges what happened did happen.
But yes, it's a very tragic sort of tale from start to finish.
And whether that all moulded him, his early upbringing, to be the man that he was, I suspect that it probably did.

Many years of working on this story now, four and a half on and off.
I've met a few times his uncle, Michael Alavirdian.
He was the brother of his father.
And he basically is full of regret because he was never offered the chance to take Nicholas in.
Nicholas was put straight into the care of the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
And he basically said, if I had been given the opportunity to raise him like my children, he said...
He said, I loved him like my children.
He said they had such a close bond.
He said, you wonder what would have happened.
And you really do.
You just think, well, if Nicholas's life had been different and he ended up living with his uncle who loved him dearly and brought him up in a nice sort of family household and all the rest, you wonder if things would have happened the way they did.
